Anxiety and panic attacks can and may completely disrupt your life. You may be wondering what happened to you. You are not the same person you once were. What can you do to be "normal" again. I know I suffered from this condition for over 15 years. I tried everything and I mean everything: yoga, meditation, breathwork, acupuncture, talk therapy, medication, exercise, zen, you name it and I did it. And not only did I try it I put my whole self into it. These treatments helped and they all had a positive cumulative effect. But there are a few nuggets of truth that helped me overcome this dibilitating condition.
First of all you have to learn to eliminate your negative thinking. I know you say you are not a negative thinker but neither was I until I started really noticing my self talk. Thanks to zen meditation I learned to meditate and I learned to carry this practice while I was going about my daily work. I noticed that not only was I a negative thinker but I was an awfulizer. Now I don't know if that is a word but basically it means that I would take everything to an extreme negative. If I thought I was sick, then I must be dying. If I thought I couldn't breath I was thinking I would suffocate to death. My self imposed fears were always to the extreme negative. No wonder I was having panic attacks, I was dying a thousand deaths in my mind. I was obsessed with dying or worse yet having a panic attack in front of others.
The answer to this was simply to stop doing this to my self. But the question was how do I do that? Well one way is to:
Learn and get in the habit of thinking in a positive way.
This is one of the quickest ways to help your self. Learn to remove the negative self talk. This is a habit that you have learned. The mind is like a garden. You have positive thoughts and these are the fruits or flowers in the garden. And your negative thoughts are the weeds. You must tend to your garden or it will be filled with weeds. One must tend to ones thoughts and at least notice them so you are not carried away by them. One must remove the negative weeds and allow the positive flowers to grow. One way to do this is to tend to the flowers and encourage the flowers to grow. This is why affirmations work so well. Not only does it point you in the right direction you want to go. But it also limits the amount of time you are thinking negatively.
There are many ways you can help yourself if you suffer from panic or anxiety attacks. The first thing that you have to realize is that this condition is fairly common, of course with different degrees of severity. I know that if you reach out you will find people who have suffered from anxiety and have overcome it. This is by no means a condition that you must live with for the rest of your life. You are far from alone when it comes to this condition. You must understand that this is something that if you understand how it works, why you are having the attack, and the different coping methods then you will be able to conquer it. Because you will be able to conquer it and befriend it at the same time. Your fear will leave and every once in a while when you notice the anxiety creeping up in your body you will smile and know that it is there but it does not overtake you.
